Melbourne Flower and Garden Show reveals garden competition winners

The 2024 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show has revealed the winners of its annual garden design competition. The competition has multiple categories and celebrates the design of larger-scale garden spaces as well as smaller balcony gardens and border landscapes.

In the Landscape Design Show Garden Competition, Emmaline Bowman of Stem Landscape Architecture and Design and Liam Riley of ID Landscaping took out five awards, including the City of Melbourne Award of Excellence for Best in Show, a Gold Show Garden Award and the Horticultural Media Association Award for best use of plant life for their entry titled Through The Looking Glass.

A design by Phillip Withers and Fiona Brockhoff was also a winner of a Gold Show Garden Award. Their garden SaltBush celebrated the unique characteristics of Victoria’s coastal environments. The Silver Gilt Show Garden Award was given out to Annika Zetterman and Kajsa Björne for their entry New Nordic Notes which drew inspiration from the team’s Swedish heritage.

In the category of small space garden design, Innersanctum by Paul Pritchard Landscape Design was awarded first place in the five-metre-by-five-metre Boutique Garden Competition. In Living Colour by Panacea Landscapes won the Balcony Garden Award, and Oasis by Emma Sheppard-Simms and La Muxlow secured first place in the Border Design Competition. Sheppard-Simms’ and Muxlow’s plants will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital at the conclusion of the event.
