2022 WA Landscape Architecture Awards announced

Four projects received Awards of Excellence in the 2022 Western Australia Landscape Architecture Awards, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) announced on 24 June.

WA jury chair Shea Hatch said this year’s entries were exceptionally strong and demonstrated thoughtfully engaged First Nations advisors, revitalized family spaces, and impressive design and execution.

Hatch offered particular praise for Infrastructure Award of Excellence winner Town of Victoria Park’s Urban Forest Program, which also received a WA Medal to designate it as the year’s most outstanding entry.

“This project successfully demonstrates that planning and implementation of urban infrastructure can genuinely include community, be culturally inclusive and demonstrate best-practice approaches in environmental planning. […] This is a well-considered, executed and truly engaging project that responds to a significant urban design issue with a whole-of-community mindset,” Hatch said.

Nineteen awards were given in total, and all awarded projects will advance to AILA’s 2022 National Landscape Architecture Awards, which are announced in mid-October.
