2024 Australian Urban Design Awards: Commendation in Leadership, Advocacy and Research – City and Regional Scale

Value Assessment System for Place (VASP) by Transport for NSW Urban Design (Public Transport and Precincts)

Jury comment

The jury has recognised the groundbreaking efforts of Transport for NSW’s Value Assessment System for Place (VASP) project, which revolutionises urban design evaluation at both city and regional scales. By introducing a standardised qualitative assessment and economic valuation tool, VASP ensures that urban design considerations are integrated into Transport’s project portfolio from the outset. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration and courageous leadership, VASP not only enhances built environment outcomes but also establishes a precedent for elevating urban design’s importance in contemporary planning and investment processes. This project has wide-reaching potential for ensuring good places are prioritised and delivered.

Value Assessment System for Place (VASP) project was undertaken on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
