2019 National Landscape Architecture Awards: Award of Excellence for Gardens

Jones Residence by TCL (Taylor Cullity Lethlean)

Jury citation:

Jones Residence is a wonderful demonstration of the contribution gardens can make to the quality of our daily lives. The thoughtfully crafted garden embraces the site and its existing features and integrates a new residence in a fitting demonstration of quality design.

The environmental challenges of a creek regeneration and the management of a number of significant trees are accommodated in the relaxed garden environment. Similarly, the needs of an active family and their desire for a pool, barbecue and deck area, as well as quieter contemplative spaces, have been skilfully integrated into the garden that includes a tailored Mediterranean palette of plants. The jury commended the design team for its engaging use of plants to create layers of varied textures, hues and forms.

Jones Residence is a living landscape that celebrates planting through a structure that meets the needs of the local site and provides a new lifestyle for the family.
