The 2011 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Victorian awards were announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on 11 November.
The AILA Victoria Medal went to Taylor Cullity Lethlean and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer for the National Arboretum Canberra. The project responds to the complexities of accommodating and positioning a rich tapestry of flora in a recently fire-ravaged site on the western side of Canberra. A thoughtful, careful project, with sensitively sited facilities and infrastructure, the master plan lays the foundations for a significant and diverse arboretum collection while successfully addressing the topographical and aesthetic characteristics and constraints of the site.
