International fellowship launched for mid-career practitioners

RMIT University and Alastair Swayn Foundation have launched a new fellowship at the American Academy in Rome for mid-career architects, landscape architects and design professionals.

ASF-RMIT Architecture Affiliated Fellowship will enable a chosen participant to spend eight weeks in residence at the American Academy, supporting their growth and development and advancing their practice.

“This fellowship is emblematic of a shared mission to support future-focused designers who are deeply engaged in their discipline and the advancement of the industry more broadly,” said Tim Marshall, deputy vice-chancellor of RMIT’s College of Design and Social Context.

During their eight-week stay, the affiliated fellow will work on a project of their choosing, cultivating their practice and making interdisciplinary connections in Rome and beyond. The affiliated fellow will also deliver a public lecture upon their return to Australia.

Vivian Mitsogianni, dean of architecture and urban design, added, “RMIT Architecture is interested in ideas-led venturous design exploration, and we are delighted to partner with the Alastair Swayn Foundation and the American Academy in Rome to provide this opportunity to an emerging practitioner.”

Applications will be assessed on project proposal, portfolio and resume. Expressions of interest close 15 March. The residency must be taken between September 2023 and July 2024.
