Design competition for Sydney park precinct

The City of Canterbury Bankstown in south-western Sydney has launched a design competition for an optimistic and innovative new precinct for its Griffith Park area.

The competition invites architects and landscape architects to envision a precinct with a place-based identity that celebrates the unique and diverse character of the city, with an accessible, safe and sustainable design that suits the needs and interests of the community.

The area includes the existing Griffith Park, a playground, the Bankstown Arts Centre, and a bowls club. The project will include designs for a new community centre, the surrounding landscape and the public domain.

The competition is a first for the City of Canterbury Bankstown and will be conducted in two stages: initial expressions of interest and, for four competitors selected to proceed, design responses. The winner will be appointed to deliver design services for the project.

On the jury are: Andy Sharp (director planning at CB City), Annabel Lahz (director of Lahznimmo Architects), Laura Harding (director of Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects), Oi Choong (consultant landscape architect) and Simeon King (director Turf Design Studio).

Registrations are open until 17 August. The winner will be announced in March 2024.
