“Community and climate resilience” at heart of 2022 NSW Landscape Architecture Awards

Six Awards of Excellence and 24 Landscape Architecture Awards have been given out at the 2022 NSW Landscape Architecture Awards, announced on Thursday 9 June.

In the Infrastructure category, the design of a new bus interachange in a former rail yard in Byron Bay by DesignInc Sydney was celebrated with an Award of Excellence, while in the Landscape Planning category, the work of Gallagher Studio with Studio Zanardo on a study developing urban tree canopy targets across New South Wales was honoured with the top award.

In other categories, a new skate park and recreation precinct in Albury on Wiradjuri Country by Playce took out the Award of Excellence in the Parks and Open Space category and a green roof on a suspended walkway in Bondi Junction on Eora Country received the top gong in the Small Projects section.

Sala4D and University of Newcastle, School of Architecture and Built Environment received the most number of awards in this year’s program, taking home four awards each.

“At the core of all awarded projects is a focus on creating community and climate resilience for the health and happiness of our people,” said jury chair Andrew Turnbull.

“The award nominations highlight the investment in New South Wales regional townships to celebrate their culture, heritage and natural beauty for the benefit of their residents and domestic tourism. This is an inter-generational investment, which will see regions through their future.”

All award recipients will progress to the 2022 National Landscape Architecture Awards to be announced in mid October.
