Walter Hood (USA)

Keynote speaker – Landscape Australia Conference 2019

Walter Hood is the creative director and founder of Hood Design Studio based in Oakland, California and a professor of landscape architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. Hood Design Studio is his tripartite practice that works across art and fabrication, design and landscape, and research and urbanism.

Walter designs and creates urban spaces and public sculpture. Believing that everyone needs beauty in their life, he uses everyday objects to create new apertures through which to see the emergent beauty, strangeness, and idiosyncrasies of urban space. His ideas emerge from the intersection of studying and practicing across architecture, landscape architecture and the fine arts. Walter was the recipient of the 2017 Academy of Arts and Letters Architecture Award.
