Jury announced: 2019 Australian Urban Design Awards

The jury for the 2019 Australian Urban Design Awards has been announced.

Created in 1996 by then-prime minister Paul Keating’s Urban Design Taskforce, the awards program recognizes excellence and innovation in Australia’s urban spaces.

The 2019 jury will be chaired by Malcolm Snow, CEO of Canberra’s City Renewal Authority and comprises:

  • Julian Bolleter, acting director of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre at the University of Western Australia (Perth)
  • Angelo Candalepas, director of Candalepas Associates (Sydney)
  • William Chandler, director of Chandler Consulting Services (Melbourne)
  • Linda Corkery, discipline director landscape architecture at the University of New South Wales (Sydney)
  • Jefa Greenaway, director of Greenaway Architects (Melbourne)
  • Diana Griffiths, director of urban design at Studio GL (Sydney)
  • Leanne Hodyl, managing director of Hodyl Land Co (Melbourne)
  • Michael McKeown, director of Jensen Plus (Adelaide)
  • Amy Muir, director of Muir Architecture (Melbourne)

Entries to the Australian Urban Design Awards close 12 July 2019. They will be assessed across four categories of built projects – city and regional scale; built projects – local and neighbourhood scale; leadership and advocacy research – city and regional scale; and leadership and advocacy research – local and neighbourhood scale.

The shortlist will be published on 16 August and the winners will be announced at a presentation in Melbourne on 30 October, which will be accompanied by a keynote address from Marijn Schenk, a founders of Next Architects in the Netherlands.

The Australian Urban Design Awards is delivered by Architecture Media and co-convened by the Planning Institute of Australia, Australian Institute of Architects and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects with the support of five other peak organizations in the built environment sector. It is also supported by Holcim, the Queensland Government and Tait.

Registrations for the 2020 Australian Urban Design Awards are open until 21 July.
