Entries open: 2020 Houses Awards

Entry is now open to the 2020 Houses Awards, which celebrate Australia’s best residential projects across nine categories, with the best house receiving the award for Australian House of the Year.

Entrants can submit any residential project located within Australia, completed between 1 January 2019 and 29 February 2020.

Each year, entries to the Houses Awards provide an insight into contemporary residential design and to the contribution Australia’s architects and designers make in enhancing modern living.

The 2019 edition of the awards saw Partners Hill take home the Australian House of the Year award for the Daylesford Longhouse, a remarkable structure that contains both a home and a working farm. The Whynot St Pool and Carport by Kieron Gait Architects and Dan Young Landscape Architect was the winner in the Garden or Landscape category.

The prizes are otherwise sorted into nine categories: New House under 200 m2, New House over 200 m2, House Alteration and Addition under 200 m2, House Alteration and Addition over 200 m2, Apartment or Unit, House in a Heritage Context, Garden or Landscape, Sustainability and Emerging Architecture Practice. Category winners receive a $1,000 prize, with the Australian House of the Year also awarded $5,000.

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges comprising James Russell (James Russell Architect), Poppy Taylor (founding partner, Taylor and Hinds), Barrie Marshall (founding partner, Denton Corker Marshall), Hannah Tribe (principal, Tribe Studio Architects) and Katelin Butler (editorial director, Architecture Media). Helen Lardner (director, HLCD) will provide advice on sustainability.
