2021 Australian Urban Design Awards: Winner of Leadership, Advocacy and Research – Local and Neighbourhood Scale

QUT Campus to Country by BVN

Jury comment

QUT Campus to Country: Positioning Strategy is an exemplary masterplan that overlays both cultural and civic considerations to propose spatial frameworks that will inform future development of QUT’s inner-Brisbane campuses. The strategy provides comprehensive guidance for future engagement with the Turrbal and Yugara peoples’ Country; project delivery; and the consistent achievement of high-quality built environment outcomes across the different city locations. The intention is that the strategy remains a “live” document that can adapt as the needs of the different campuses and their surrounding communities change.

The jury was impressed by how the strategy will be implemented sequentially to apply learnings from pilot projects, monitoring, place evaluation and other findings. It sets a high benchmark for other large-scale institutions to emulate in terms of its public commitment to the integration of Indigenous values and the clarity of its urban design logic and communication.

QUT Campus to Country: Positioning Strategy applies to land in Brisbane, Queensland, the land of the Turrbal and Yuggera people.
