2020 Australian Urban Design Awards: Commendation for Leadership, Advocacy and Research – City and Regional Scale

Reimagining Campbelltown City Centre Master Plan (NSW) by Campbelltown City Council in partnership with Urbis, AECOM, Arcadis and Astrolabe

Jury citation

The master plan for the Campbelltown city centre is extensive and ambitious, underpinned by realistic and committed actions to manage rapid population growth in this key strategic location. Processes that captured broad engagement with the community, including the Campbelltown Aboriginal community, the Dharawal people, are reflected in the project’s outcomes. The identification of catalyst projects that focus on public space and community infrastructure, combined with joint council and state government projects, will transform this part of the Western Parkland City from one that has struggled with physical and social challenges, to one that will offer an exemplar of outer-suburban living and working. The master plan presents the way forward for this area in a lively and accessible document. It is to be commended for its leadership in the process, vision and tangible actions presented.
