2019 National Landscape Architecture Awards: Landscape Architecture Award for Cultural Heritage

Sunset Heritage Precinct by Hassell

Jury citation:

The refurbishment of Perth’s Sunset Heritage Precinct – once a men’s hospital – has respectfully addressed the culture of the place, with “landscapes of memory” thoughtfully revealed for the benefit of present-day patrons. The repurposed site, which had been closed to public access for decades, offers abundant green space for active and passive recreation while nestling comfortably into the surrounding bush and suburban fabric. The project illustrates restraint, design composition, consideration of existing place qualities and a respectful interpretation of cultural heritage.

Location: Dalkeith (WA)

Aboriginal Nation: Whadjuk
