Laura Crommelin

Laura Crommelin is a Research Associate at the UNSW City Futures Research Centre. Already a sessional lecturer in the Faculty, Laura’s research interests cover a range of current trends in post-industrial cities, including place branding, place-making and DIY urban revitalisation practices. Her recently completed Ph.D research examines how DIY urbanism and place branding are being implemented in post-industrial cities, and how these practices are redefining the image of these places. Her case studies for this research are Detroit, Michigan and Newcastle, Australia, as both cities look to reshape their image following economic restructuring. Laura was the 2012 Fulbright NSW Scholar, spending 8 months as a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan in 2012-2013. She also holds an M.Litt in US Studies from the University of Sydney and a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.
